| Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How come the magazine is free? A. The magazine will be fully funded by advertising once established. How it works is this: The more magazines actually distributed, the more advertisers are interested and thus the project is self-perpetuating and self sustaining. Q. What if I would like 100 copies or more, will they still be free of charge? A. Yes
Q. Can I have as many as I like? A. Yes, within reason. Distribution will need to be verified - by completing a very simple feedback form. It is important that copies are not be wasted. Q. What about postage or courier costs? A. The magazines will be delivered to you free of charge. Q.
What do you get out of it? A. Satisfaction. One day I may even be able to repay myself the money I have been putting into the project over the last 24 months! Q. Will I be sent a full year’s supply all at once? A. No. The magazine will be published every two months. With new content and exciting stories – always fresh and engaging. Q. The maternity unit is large and we will need 300 magazines each issue. How will they arrive, in one big box? A. The magazines will be sent to you in boxes of around 100. The boxes will be no bigger than the normal box that you would get A4 copier paper in, so easily manageable. Q. We have a small unit, so only need 30 magazines each issue. How will they be sent? A. They will be sent by courier, in a small box or packet. Very small amounts may be posted. Q. How will you ensure the advertising adheres to the WHO Code? A. When approached by advertisers or a company is recommended to me, the first thing we do is check out their website. If greeted by cutesy baby vests with 'Bring a Bottle' slogans, or natty little plastic formula containers, then it just goes no further. If the company are ok, then we check whether they are privately owned or part of a larger organisation. If privately owned, then ok if their ethos fits. If part of a large corporate organisation, we then check to see which other company owns shares in it, or which companies are subsidiaries of it. We use Companies House, Corporate Critic, Ethical Consumer and various other internet searches to verify details. If doubts persist, then we usually double check with Baby Milk Action. If you have questions relating to a specific company, then please contact us directly. We prefer not to name individual companies on this website.
Q. Will you accept advertising from a breast pump manufacturer? A. Ideally not, although if it makes the difference between having the funds to publish or not, then I will have to re-think that one. There are some manufacturers that violate the Code in other ways and they would be excluded altogether. Again, if you have questions relating to a specific company, then please contact us directly. We prefer not to name individual companies on this site.
Q. Who owns Mum & Me magazine and is it Corporate sponsored? A. Mum & Me magazine is wholly owned and published by Breastfeeding Community, which is a totally independent, not for profit organisation, with no affliliation to any company or organisation. Breastfeeding Community is a member of The Baby Feeding Law Group. If you have any further questions, please use the Contact Us button to send an email.
